The true joy of understanding the Gītā arises only when one attempts to understand the meanings of its original ślokas without being influenced by pre-existing interpretations. When such an effort is made, a sincere seeker who later studies various commentaries, explanations, and bhāṣyas gradually begins to recognize where meanings have been unnecessarily stretched or imposed.
Our effort is likewise directed towards interpreting the text while giving complete justice to the original. To remain faithful to the source text is itself true śāstra-sādhana.
This work is titled Vedic Gītā because the meanings and commentary of all the ślokas of the Gītā have been presented with the Vedas, Upaniṣhads, and Darśanas as the foundational basis. This commentary does not engage in criticism or refutation of any doctrine, sect, or other commentators on the Gītā.
At the beginning of each chapter, a brief discussion of the chapter’s subject matter has been provided. In this commentary, each śloka is followed by padārtha, in which the meaning of every individual word is explained. While presenting the padārtha, the sentence structure has been arranged in such a way that the reader can easily understand the meaning of the śloka.
Although the padārtha itself is generally sufficient for understanding the fundamental meaning of a śloka, explanatory commentary has also been added wherever necessary. Furthermore, wherever certain doubts or philosophical questions may arise, their resolution has likewise been provided. To establish continuity between consecutive ślokas, a brief saṅgati - contextual connection - has also been included between them.
At the beginning of the Gītā text, explanations of some important terms of the Gītā that should always be specially remembered have also been provided.
To make the commentary on the Gītā more engaging and aesthetically enriching, suitable illustrations have also been included at appropriate places.
